Hawaiian Rehearsal Dinner

We had a Hawaiian inspired Rehearsal Dinner for my brother Andrew and his fiance Karen Rose. It was out at the wedding site and we made the food for the event. Michael did up some tasty pulled pork sandwiches, and we prepared fruit kabobs, baked beans (thanks Laurie!), salad with jicama and mango, and corn on the cob. We had a Apple pie and these for dessert. So delicious (and you can get them at Costco)!
The rehearsal dinner was fun, but was not short on drama. Huge raindrops started to fall right before the practice and dinner. We also heard thunder/lightening in the distance (and the Sat. wedding forecast began to change for the worse). Thankfully it eased up after a short time and actually cooled off the muggy evening for us. We had a great time having all 40 something guests share how they knew Andrew or Karen Rose and a fun memory about them. We started the dance party and even had a limbo contest that was eventually interrupted by someone yelling, "Call 911!". Across the street Andrew's neighbors barn was in flames. Half of the wedding party (most of the guys and a few ladies as well) started running (some in bare feet) across the street while my Dad and Andrew got on the phone with the emergency contacts. The flames were huge and we were all praying that their were no humans/animals in danger's way. Some of the wedding party were able to alert the homeowners who were watching TV in their home nearby unaware that their barn was on fire. After sometime, about 14 fire engines showed up to the location. Andrew lives out in the boonies, so there are no fire hydrants so each truck had to bring their own water and kept having to leave to retrieve more water as the fire burned on. Thankfully the fire was contained and put out, and we found out that no animals were in the barn. The homeowners lost trucks, tools, tractors, etc from the accident. It was unfortunate, but made for a very eventful finale to our evening.
